Did you know?
From around 1970 hot wax has been used in salons. This wax was much thicker, hotter and less flexible that the modern hot waxes we see today. The other major difference was the wax was reused. Yep, you read that right 🤢
The wax didn’t grip hair very well and was applied like a figure 8 to try and twist as much hair as possible into the wax, once the patch was set the wax was removed and placed BACK INTO THE WAX POT! 😱😱😱
Back then you had a two tier wax pot, you would place used wax strips into the upper chamber where it would remelt, and go through a small mesh filter and back into the lower chamber to be reused on the next client.
Unfortunately this filter wasn’t very good at catching all the hair, and often hair would slip past the filter and into the fresh wax.
What’s even more surprising is that clients would sometimes specifically ask for “hairy wax” if getting a bikini wax 😳
Why would anyone want that?!?
The wax was usually quite brittle when new, and the more it was reheated the more flexible it became. The more flexible the wax, the less pain you’ll be in when getting a bikini wax!
Thankfully formulas have improved loads in the last 10-15 years and these methods are no longer needed 😅😅 Phew ....
